The Software Engineering & Visualisation Group (SEVG) covers a wide range of research topics which have a common theme of understanding complexity. Further information about the group is available at http://www.cosc. canterbury.ac.nz/research/RG/svg. Software systems are too large and complex to be able to be understood in complete detail by individual developers. Consequently, we need abstractions which enable us to build effective models of the components and relationships which are most relevant to the design, implementation, evolution, testing, comprehension, integration and other activities performed by software engineers. Software engineering is a team activity and much of our work concerns enabling people to collaborate effectively. We can identify some broad themes which run through our work:
